Morning Keynote: Strategic and Practical Implementation of Smart Building Technology

Richard Kuppusamy
Head of Digital Engineering
Lendlease

Richard Kuppusamy is a chartered British Architect with more than 18 years of experience in the AEC industry with projects across Europe to Asia. He graduated from the Mackintosh School of Architecture, Glasgow, with a Masters in Architecture and Urban Design in 2001. After practicing in the UK for over 10 years; Richard returned to Singapore to join acclaimed architectural practice, WOHA Architects. In 2017 he joined Lendlease, as the Head of Digital Engineering where he leads the implementation of innovation in digital technology and processes through BIM/VDC from design, construction through to facility management. In his spare time, Richard is a contributor to several non-profit organizations in a voluntary capacity. These include the Digital Built Environment Institute - A global non-profit institution focused on education in technological innovations in the AEC industry, Director of the Singapore Armed Forces Care Fund, and President of the Disabled People’s Association (DPA).

Pierre CHEYRON is Chief Executive Officer of ENGIE South East Asia, leading one of the fastest growing key business clusters in the Asia Pacific organization towards Zero-Carbon Transition by delivering solutions “as a service” to its customers. An experienced business leader, living across many Asian countries for more than a decade, Pierre joined ENGIE in 2010 as CEO of Cofely South East Asia, subsequently known as ENGIE Services Asia Pacific. 

With ENGIE’s focus growth within the region, his role covers the diverse and fast developing countries in South East Asia, leading over 2,000 employees in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Philippines, offering services in energy efficiency and sustainability for commercial buildings, industries and cities, with a focus on client solutions and renewable energy. Prior to ENGIE, Pierre was with Alcatel-Lucent Malaysia as Managing Director & CEO with various key management roles in Asia and Europe. Pierre was appointed President of the Malaysian French Chamber of Commerce & Industry from 2011 to 2015 and is currently a member of the board with the French Chamber of Commerce in Singapore. He was conferred the honourable title of Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Merite in 2016.

Pierre holds a Master of Engineering. Given Pierre’s experience in management leadership, extensive knowledge of local and regional markets, deep understanding of infrastructure, energy solutions and services, he seeks to contribute, partner and value add across all commercial sectors, including government agencies and government linked companies with ENGIE as an established global player in energy demand and sustainability.

Tong Kok Kwang

Wide exposure in the various type of buildings services such as working as in construction, consultant and today in facilities and sustainability management. A practicing Singapore Professional Mechanical Engineer for more than 20 years and have successfully designed and project manage many projects such as Hotels, Grade A Offices, Shopping Centres, Warehouses, Institutions, Petrol Chemical, Warehouse, Waste Water Treatment Plants and some the projects exceeding S$1 billion in value. Worked on projects in various Asia and Middle East countries such as Indonesia, China, Vietnam, UAE, Malaysia, Myanmar and Singapore.

Currently, head of Mechanical Services facilities management and maintenance, as well as leading the building sustainability effort in Nanyang Technological University (NTU). Within 4 years or work, manage to upgrade 95% of all NTU’s buildings (more than 200) to Green Mark Platinum and in the process help NTU won the highest Green Mark Award in Singapore, Green Mark Platinum Star Champion. This years,  help NTU upgrade seven buildings to Zero Energy Building and one to Super Low Energy Building which again is the new record in Singapore. Was awarded Green Facilities Manager of the Year 2017 jointly by Singapore Building Construction Authority and Singapore Green Building Council.


Rolls-Royce's Zero Carbon Goal and how Smart Technology can get us there

Nigel Goh
Regional Energy Manager, Asia-Pacific

Nigel is the Regional Energy Manager overseeing utility usage and carbon reduction projects for the APAC region at Rolls-Royce. 

RR is a British multinational industrial company that designs, manufactures and distributes power systems for aviation and other industries. In line with its corporate goal of achieving zero carbon by 2030, Nigel’s work focuses on driving initiatives to reduce consumption and use less carbon-intensive energy sources. 

In his previous role, he was involved in M&E project development and design, energy efficiency, green building and smart building technology at a Singapore multinational property developer firm. Prior to that, he was managing the Singapore and China offices for a Singapore green building design firm, helping building owners adopt low-carbon strategies in the design and operation of their building projects.

Nigel has a keen interest in advancing causes to combat global warming and believes that smart technology can be one of the enabling levers to accelerate progress in this field


Digitalisation of Building & Energy Management - Opportunities for FM Players

Damien Dhellemmes

Damien Dhellemmes is the Country President for Schneider Electric Singapore. In this role, Damien is responsible for the alignment of corporate strategy and business orientation, as well as oversight of all commercial initiatives, operations and implementation.

Prior to the role of Country President Singapore, Damien led the end-to-end Supply Chain organisation for Schneider Electric in East-Asia Japan and Pacific across 18 countries. He first joined Schneider Electric 24 years ago, and had since held various positions in the Supply Chain function of manufacturing, logistics, as well as procurement and sourcing. 

Having lived in Asia for 14 years, Damien has diverse experience in the region; he moved to Singapore in the summer of 2013 after spending four years in Bangalore, India, and five years in Shanghai, China. 

Damien holds an MSc in Electrical Engineering from ISEN, as well as an MBA from the EDHEC Business School in France.


Role of Human Factors in Smart FM

Dr Yin Shan Qing

Dr. Yin Shanqing is the Assistant Director of Human Factors & Systems Design at KK Women's and Children's Hospital (KKH), pioneering the application of human factors principles and methodologies toward healthcare research and solution-planning in Singapore. 

Prior to KKH, Dr Yin served as the nation's first healthcare human factors specialist in Changi General Hospital (CGH) for 5 years. With over ten years of human factors exposure, Dr Yin's journey has brought him through various domains such as aviation and process control. He has been involved in projects of varying scales, ranging from the development of user-friendly products and interfaces, to the design and refinement of large infrastructures. He has a PhD in Human Factors Engineering and a BSc in Psychology, and is also an FAA-certified private pilot.


Healthcare Facilities: Towards Industry 4.0

Chee Yen is currently the Head of Healthcare Support (Commercial), UEM Edgenta Berhad and Chief Executive Officer of UEMS Pte. Ltd, an Integrated Facility Management company which provides healthcare support services to over 150 hospitals across Singapore, Taiwan and Malaysia.

Prior to this, she served as the Head of Corporate Development, Planning and Strategy at UEM Edgenta Berhad, a regional Asset Management and Infrastructure Solutions company with RM2.4 billion market capitalisation, and was responsible for corporate and strategic planning of the business including driving regional expansion and growth. 

Chee Yen has more than 18 years of experience in various business life cycle including advisory, private equity / M&A, strategy development, business development, transformation and restructuring.  

She was previously attached to UEM Group Berhad as General Manager, Group Chief’s Operating Officer’s Office, and served as an Associate Director of CIMB Investment Bank Bhd for a large part of her career, originating and executing private equity transactions in South East Asia, Australasia and Europe.


Facility Management in the Age of Digitalisation

Jeffery is the Deputy Group Director Environmental Sustainability Group, Building and Construction Authority overseeing the Facility Management Project Office and Green Mark Department (New Development).  

The FMPO works with industry stakeholders to co-create initiatives and programmes to facilitate the transformation of the FM sector in Singapore.  The scope includes manpower and industry development, promoting procurement best practices, enabling adoption of smart FM technologies, and facilitating research and innovation.  

He also oversees several key green building initiatives under the BCA Green Building programmes.  These include the BCA Green Mark Scheme which certifies buildings on their level of environmental friendliness especially energy efficiency, water efficiency and quality of indoor environment; the Green Mark Incentives Scheme to encourage private developers to build green buildings; the Public sector taking the lead to go green and legislation on energy efficiency and sustainability in buildings.
